Writing Tips for an Illustration Essay
An illustration essay is kind of writing, which you would  illustrate a point, object or situation in details, so that the reader can see what you are talking about just through your writing. In many cases, an illustration essay intends to prove that something exists by painting a picture through words for readers. An illustration essay is more than talking about something. If the essay is composed correctly, the readers will understand your subject in as much detail as yourself. The following tips may be helpful in writing an illustration essay.

1. Choose topic carefully.

In the school, the teacher usually chooses a topic for an illustration essay for students. However, if it is not already given to you, then you had better choose a topic in which that you are quite interested and with which you are very familiar. For instance, if you are going to write an essay about how dog breed discrimination occurs in your town, remember that you have enough information about this topic to prove your point.

2. Give examples if necessary.

Don’t just tell your reader about your subject. Taking the dog breed discrimination for example again, avoid just describing what it is. Instead you should offer detailed examples of situations that you feel illustrate the discrimination. Perhaps landlords dislike certain breeds of dogs on their properties. Provide readers with lots of detail so as to make them believe that there exist a certain situation or thing . The more examples you give in your essay, the easier it will be to illustrate that something exists.

3. Vary example types.

It is quite common that not every reader would respond to the same examples. If you want to better illustrate your topic to more people, you should include different types of examples in your essay, By doing so, you can either give examples you have  experienced yourself with the topic or examples that anyone may come across. These may overlap or your experience with a certain topic may vary substantially from the normal experience with a topic.

4. Don’t analyze too much.

Analyzing a situation should be the task for an analysis essay, because it tries to prove why something exists rather than just proving that it does exist. Illustration essays should stick to illustrating your point. In longer, more complex writing assignments — like ones assigned in college — students may ¬†have the opportunity to combine these two types of essays. However, in lower grade levels, combining these essay types might lead to a lower grade due to unfulfilling the assignment properly.
