Teenage girls might have a tough time in balancing weight and health. At each turn, teens are facing with conflicting choices: eat this junk or be skinny. Teenagers also confront with the same obesity epidemic as adults. A study from the University of California San Diego notes that obesity in teen girls was closely related to the development of depression. Here are a few tips to help a teen girl who wants to diet and reach healthy goals.

1. Eat unprocessed foods.

You should know that the fewer foods decision you have to make, the easier it is to make them. Hence, you are recommended to opt for unprocessed and unadulterated food in the first place. Eat some raw vegetables and fresh fruit, raw nuts and seeds, and whole grains. Drink more water. Choose lightly cooked meals over fried foods or battered foods. Select oil and vinegar instead of creamy dressings. Foods with the least amount done to it will be the best candidates for a healthy diet.

2. Resist ridiculous images.

Those Hollywood actress and fashion models show you with perfect images of shapes. However, you should know that they have not had a square meal in years. Dig deep behind the perfect scenes of the fantasy bodies and talk about bulimia, anorexia and other potentially fatal diseases with your friends, parents and health care professionals. Do not buy into the marketing that disempowers young women and pay for it with self-esteem and more importantly, your health.

3. Have breakfast.

Get up a little bit earlier and have your breakfast. By having breakfast, you can boost your metabolism so that it can burn more calories all day, rev up you energy and you will not dragging around by mil-morning craving a candy bar. Also, you can keep yourself from feeling hunger pains until it is time for lunch. Good foods recommended for your breakfast include steel-cut oatmeal with raisins, a fruit smoothie, an egg, whole wheat toast and a peach or banana. Or, you can opt for a non-breakfast food such as the leftovers from last night’s dinner, or a bowl of miso soup. You could also grab a low-fat yogurt with a handful of nuts and then head to the door. To keep it simple, just don’t leave home with an empty stomach.

4. Do some exercise.

Couch potatoes do look like potatoes, while tennis plays look like power women and hip hop dancers are endurance athletes. If you keep walking, you will have healthier lungs and hearts, as well as shapelier legs. Get away from computers and run through some power yoga in your bedroom. You can also sign up for a sports team or a swim course. Some other exercise can be jumping rope, fitness ball, or hauling out a bike. Don’t aim for skinny, just shoot for strong. The only thing you have to get rid of is some unhealthy weight.
