The Atkins diet was a great way to lose weight for many people. It worked by allowing user to eat foods that are high in fat and protein while curbing carbohydrates. Some people followed Atkins diet and successfully lost large amounts of weight, however, some other suffered symptoms including headaches, nausea and constipation. If you follow a few dieting tips, your Atkins diet can work properly and even be healthy.

1. Look at the calories.

The Atkins diet is not your license to eat without control. It does involve having large quantities of fat and proteins, however, if you can go overboard, you will suffer many negative side-effects. A person on the Atkins diet should eat only normal portion of food. A woman should consume around 1,800 calories each day while the amount for a man is no more than 2,500. Of course, the amount varies slightly based on your weight and body type.

2. Eat your meals regularly.

People on the Atkins diet need to eat meals regularly. The regularly meals include three meals plus two small snacks every day. Eating meals regularly helps your body’s metabolism and assists digestion.

3. Drink more water.

Drinking more water is healthy no matter in which type of diet. When you are on the Atkins diet, you need to consume at least eight glasses of water per day. Water could help flush the system of impurities and also providing other health benefits. You are also highly recommended to cut out caffeine during the early stages of your Atkins diet.

4. Refrain alcohol drinks.

Alcohol should be taken in moderation in any types of diet. The Atkins diet does not allow an occasional indulgence of spirits. While, you can have some white wines or clear spirits like vodka or gin, which are low in carbohydrate content.

5. Eat some fruits.

A common misunderstanding on the Atkins diet is that you can’t eat fruits due to their high sugar content. However, this is not the case. Some fruits are actually better for this weight loss program. For instance, melons are good due to their low carb content, so as strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. Please keep in mind that dried fruits should be avoided.
